UU Habitat work crew on July 9
16 members of the UU Church helped out with the Habitat build on July 9, 2011. We completed the handicapped ramp, painted, caulked, installed blinds, installed medicine cabinets & towel racks...and a multitude of small details. The home for Towanda Frazier and her family is set to be done and dedicated next weekend! Thanks to all the volunteers; you really help make a difference.

Habitat for Humanity build
Join our UU work crew to help build a Habitat for Humanity house for the Frazier family. Their new home will be at 607 E. Beardsley, Champaign. We are providing the work crews for two Saturdays: June 25 and July 9. We need 10-12 volunteers for each work day, which start at 8am and run until 4-5pm. You don’t need any special skills to work on a Habitat home. Work supervisors will show you any skill you need to know. Volunteers must be 16 years or older. Come to the Social Action table in Fellowship Hall to sign-up for one of these work days. Contact Jim Hannum (jwhannum@gmail.com) for further information.

Nine members of the UUCUC CROP Walk team walked the 5.8 miles through Urbana on a beautiful sunny day, April 17th. We raised $415, which combined with 20 other local churches, raised $26,000 for local, national, and international programs to fight hunger. For more information on CROP Hunger walks, see: http://www.churchworldservice.org/site/PageServer?pagename=crop_main"

Screening (movie): "Riot Acts" Jan. 28nd, 7pm
From the onset, Director Madsen Minax and Producer Simon Strikeback intended Riot Acts to directly counter the one-dimensional tragic transgender narrative found in both straight and gay mainstream cinema. Trans people are frequently portrayed as isolated, secretive, asexual and often end up dead. Riot Acts instead offers a true-to-life portrayal of trans people celebrated not for their "struggle" but for their talent as musicians.
