Our UU work crew helped to rehabilitate a Habitat home in north Champaign. We tore out carpets, scraped off ceiling plaster, tore out cabinets, toilet, and damaged flooring, and cut down an immense amount of brush in the yard. What a destructive, creative mess! Here's our work group: from L to R: Jim Hannum, Jared Lofrano, Chuck Cooper, Kathleen Robbins, Fran Hunt, Jerry Hunt, Gail Hueting, Dave Sutton, Geoff Levin, Helen Gapsis, and David Sharpe.

CROP walk 2013
The UU Hunger Initiative and Social Action Committee helped our church be the host church for the 2013 CROP walk Nancy Dietrich and Sandy Hannum were our coordinators. This event raises money for hunger fighting organizations in central Illinois. Hundreds of volunteers from many different churches gathered in our Sanctuary to start the 6 mile fund raising walk. Lots of members of our church volunteered to walk and raise money, to bring refreshments for the walkers, and to help with the set-up and clean-up for the event. Thank you!

backpacks for Daily Bread Soup Kitchen
We collected 75 full backpacks to give to the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen. Wow! What an outpouring of generosity. Thanks to all who donated backpacks and who helped with this Hunger Initiative event in other ways. This photo shows the huge pile of backpacks in the church lobby and some of the folks who helped move them to the car for transportation to the soup kitchen!

Rachel Storm and Maggie Thomas led a workshop on language sensitivity on December 2 at the church. They discussed common terms and their definitions that apply to the LGBTQ community. Interested in learning more? A summary of these definitions are on the information table in Fellowship Hall. Look for the next workshop after the holidays.
